Channon Rose is very uncertain as to what the enforcement of this policy will mean for her YouTube channel as YouTube is both she and her husband Travis Dean’s full-time job. Channon Rose’s channel heavily consists of StoryTime videos surrounding risqué topics and sexual content. The new guidelines prohibits content creators to monetize videos involving sexual content and even sexual humor.
“Advertiser-friendly videos means no sexual content, no swearing, no cussing, no vulgar language, no sexual content, no sexual humor… so you really can’t talk about sex or sex jokes which— Rest In Peace my channel.”
Channon says she can understand no swearing—something she can overcome on her channel however, Channon says she feels YouTube is basically censoring freedom of speech. Channon goes on to discuss the hundreds of story time channels in which YouTubers discuss their first time smoking weed and other drug experiences—these channels will no longer be monetized.
Channon Rose’s biggest issues with YouTube’s guidelines are that they are incredibly vague. Channon says anyone can be offended by sensitive or controversial topics.
“They don’t have specific guidelines by what it means ‘sensitive or controversial subjects’.”
Rose uses the example of a person running a religious channel on YouTube—a channel which lacks vulgarity, sexual content or sexual humor may be deemed controversial or offensive to someone.
“Panic has been struck on the YouTube community.”

Channon continues to say her audiences comes to her channel to view story time videos…now majority of these videos will not be monetized due to the nature of its’ content.
“Majority of my videos are not advertiser-friendly, which means I wouldn’t be able to make money off of them…which means I won’t be able to pay my rent, or my health insurance or anything like that and that’s a little scary to think.”
Channon said she’s contacted her manager but maintains she does not know what this means for the future of her channel.
